  • Staff Engineer

    InSilixa seeks a Staff Engineer to support the development and production of DNA microarrays and associated component parts for our unique sample-to-answer diagnostics platform.

    Specific duties will include:
    • Hands-on cleanroom pilot facility role focused on the development and production of high-precision proprietary complementary metal-oxide semiconductor (CMOS) biochip technology.
    • Operation, maintenance, and validation of sophisticated automation equipment to ensure proper functionality of molecular diagnosis using biochip technology.
    • Design scaleup of electrical biochip manufacturing processes to meet specifications and standards.
    • Plan and execute new manufacturing projects of DNA microarrays in collaboration with other Engineers and Managers as necessary.
    • Investigate complaints from internal or external customers with root cause analysis and determine suitable solutions to resolve issues pertaining to the development of DNA microarrays.
    • Support process development and process transfer to external parties to further development of electrical biochips.
    • Collect, document, summarize and communicate data and trends of DNA microarrays on a regular basis and where necessary trouble-shoot, problem-solve, and improve processes.

    Basic Description: InSilixa is seeking a highly motivated bioinformatician to join its advanced R&D group focusing on creating CMOS-based molecular diagnostics assays. The primary responsibilities include identifying unique nucleic acid targets, sequences, and signatures in various organisms for nucleic acid amplification testing (NAAT) and creating novel, automated methods to design primers and probes for highly multiplexed reactions. Candidates should demonstrate the capability to operate independently, design and analyze complex experiments, and prepare rigorous technical reports.

    Qualifications: Doctoral degree in bioinformatics or related areas with at least 3 years of post-degree experience in bioinformatics, preferably in industry or a cutting edge and research-oriented academic institution or Master’s degree with experience sufficient to demonstrate equivalency.

    • Drive bioinformatics projects through all stages of planning, design, computational verification, and empirical validation.
    • Implement novel, innovative algorithms for design of multiplex PCR primers and probes compatible with InSilixa’s NAAT methods.
    • Rapidly prototype bioinformatics algorithms and analysis methods to address emerging company needs.
    • Analyze data and debug results in order to identify avenues for future development and improvement.
    • Communicate with experimental scientists and other team members.
    • Thoroughly document and communicate progress with team and senior management.
    Required Skills:
    • In depth knowledge and competency in using various software tools and packages for genome sequence analysis and annotation.
    • Fundamental understanding of PCR, or ability to learn.
    • Proficient and hands-on in a linux environment.
    • Proficient and hands-on in Python, including experience implementing and maintaining bioinformatics pipelines.
    • Proactive self-starter with strong analytical and troubleshooting skills able to conduct and plan independent projects with minimal supervision.
